Notes/Thoughts
  •  I said I wasn't going to get any more books outside the American Guide and Rivers of America series because my bookshelves are almost full, but I couldn't resist when there were several 1940s books being sold to support a historic site.

North Carolina: A Guide to the Old North State

Title: North Carolina: A Guide to the Old North State
Author: Federal Writer's Project
Year Published: 1939

Notes/Thoughts
  • Not a 1940s book, but part of the American Guide series and there doesn't necessarily appear to be a 1940s edition for this state and I have decided to focus only on WPA and Rivers of America books for now as I'm running out of bookshelf space.

35. Doctor Dolittle's Circus

Title: Doctor Dolittle's Circus
Author: Hugh Lofting
Year Published: 1925
Year Printed: 1948

Date Acquired: April 9, 2017
Where Purchased: eBay
Price Paid: $12 (paid mostly with eBay Bucks, so only a couple dollars out of pocket)

Read Status: Read (June 12, 2017)

Notes/Thoughts
  • I broke my rule of not buying online because I am trying to read the Dr. Dolittle series this year. I couldn't find an e-book version of this one and it made sense to just buy a 1940s edition since I couldn't get it much cheaper as anything else. Unfortunately, it ended up being pretty bad condition AND I found a Kindle version was just released. I guess at least I don't have to totally ruin this copy by reading it and will just read it on Kindle since I have free slow shipping credits that I never know what to use on anyways.

33. Chicken Every Sunday

Title: Chicken Every Sunday
Author: Rosemary Taylor
Year Published: 1943
Year Printed: 1943

Date Acquired: January 3, 2017
Where Purchased: Bookmans Speedway, Tucson, AZ
Price Paid: $6

Read Status: Read (August 4, 2017)

Notes/Thoughts
  • I really didn't expect to find a 1940s book in Bookmans much less the one I've been trying to find on my Tucson visits for years.
  • p. 4 - "Uncle Harry, Father’s brother said, “I think you two are crazy to build so far out; the town will never catch up with you."
    • Always funny when reading Rosemary Taylor and West University was considered "out in the country" and that's where we built a house as "downtown" when everyone was building in that time period's "out in the country" instead.
