Notes/Thoughts
Probably way overpaid for this book and could've just got the one without the book jacket for $85 (still had map), but at least it's supporting independent bookstores in person (on Independent Bookstore Day, too) and maybe one day I still can complete the series buying them in person. Almost got a Rivers of America book, but put it back since it was a later 1960s one in that series and this has been my number one want for the American Guide series.
"But the crises are not its own - it [Washington City] does no more than reflect (sometimes, it is true, with fringes of distortion) the advancing or retrograde movements of a country's civilization. Above and beneath its myriad illusive aspects, it is essentially the condensing-mirror of national conditions, sentiments and aspirations, the sounding-board of a national vox populi." - p.67

Notes/Thoughts
I have long been trying to find My Friend, Flicka for my 1940s collection as I remember my grandma talking about her horse Flicka, which we assume she named from the book. I didn't even realize it was a trilogy, but now I have all except the one I knew to look for.
